Doing Diversity, Being Diversity

For many public institutions, ‘doing diversity’ exists as a performative act; dance choreographed through acts of policy espousing laudable song based on equality. The reality is somewhat different when it comes to implementation, lofty ambitions give way impermanent initiatives that are both strategically and tonally off-key. Today, universities across the UK express their egalitarian aims progressive sometimes decolonising theories change, but all fail deliver pragmatic praxis demanded by staff, students collaborative research partners. This should not be so, especially for British anthropology departments which have sufficient authority implement structural changes required make themselves representative worlds they study. Looking at this matter from perspective ‘race’, paper calls pedagogical rebalancing our discipline. It suggests revaluation utility meritocratic systems evaluation employment permanent ‘native’ staff in strategic roles displace enclaves hegemonic ‘whiteness’ could enough transform doing diversity - into being it.
